Woman killed in 3-car accident; 2 others injured
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old Centralia woman was killed in an accident that happened near Mexico, Missouri. The accident happened on Highway 22 on July 18 and involved three vehicles.
The 20-year-old woman was reportedly driving her 2001 Lincoln Town Car west around 6:30 a.m. About 1 mile west of Audrain County Road 379, the woman pulled into the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass another car. When she did, the woman reportedly saw an oncoming 1998 GMC pickup truck being driven by a 28-year-old man.
Law enforcement authorities state that the woman then swerved to try to get back into the westbound lane. She steered too hard, causing her vehicle to turn by 90 degrees and the pickup to broadside it. The woman’s vehicle was then also hit by a 23-year-old man driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 in the eastbound lane. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Both men were injured, with the 23-year-old man’s injuries being characterized as minor while the 28-year-old man’s injuries were characterized as serious. The 28-year-old man was taken via helicopter for treatment at University Hospital.
People who are injured in accidents caused by the reckless driving of others may file civil lawsuits in order to recover damages. When the reckless driver is killed in the accident, the injured plaintiffs may file wrongful death civil lawsuits, naming the at-fault driver’s estate as the defendant to the lawsuit. Wrongful death lawsuits may help victims to recover damages that are designed to provide full compensation for the losses the plaintiffs have suffered. A personal injury attorney can be of assistance in this regard.
