Ideas for keeping guests safe after parties

No matter the time of the year, there is nearly always a good reason to throw a party. However, one of your top challenges as a host may not be coming up with an idea or occasion for a party but rather how to keep guests safe afterward. That is, how to ensure they do not drive intoxicated.

Fortunately, there are quite a few approaches you can take, so read on.

Ask that guests choose designated drivers

Tell your guests that you would like them to pick out designated drivers to ensure they get home safely. Moreover, give incentives to these designated drivers. For example, maybe you can enter their names into a drawing for a nice prize.

Have alternate transportation options handy

This idea can be easier said than done if you live in the city rather than way out in the country, but it works either way. Keep a list handy of taxicab companies, and have the Uber app or your preferred ride-sharing app on your phone. If feasible, hold your party near a good public transportation stop.

Provide things to do

One mistake that some hosts make is giving alcohol too much focus at the party. Instead, focus on something else, such as games or conversation, so guests have a lot more to do than drink. Also, provide access to a wide range of beverages, not just, say, alcohol and water. 

Account for other variables

Another thing to keep in mind is that there could be drugs and guests who bring their own alcohol. How you deal with these people is up to you. You do not necessarily have to ask them to leave, but it is good to have a plan ready in case this scenario happens. For example, one thing you can do is collect car keys as guests arrive, and if someone seems like they would put themselves, their passengers and others on the road at risk, have them spend the night.
