2-vehicle collision leaves 1 dead, 3 injured
A 27-year-old Missouri woman is dead following a two-car accident near Jackson on Aug. 23, highway officials said. Three other individuals who were involved received minor to moderate injuries.
According to the report, the fatal collision occurred at an intersection around 10:40 a.m. when a 59-year-old driver in an eastbound sedan suddenly swerved over into oncoming traffic, hitting a westbound sedan head-on. The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to overturn, trapping the driver inside.
Emergency rescue crews who responded to the scene of the crash transported the trapped driver to Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. The woman succumbed to her injuries shortly after she arrived at the hospital. The two passengers in her vehicle, a 7-year-old female and a 41-year-old male, were also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver who allegedly caused the accident was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Following the crash, police closed the road in both directions for a few hours and diverted traffic while investigators worked to determine the cause of the accident. It was reported that all of the motorists involved in the wreck were wearing their seat belts.
Family members whose loved one died in a car accident may find recourse through a wrongful death lawsuit filed in a civil court. If the surviving family members of the victim can substantiate their claims that their loved one died because of another driver’s negligent actions, they could be eligible to receive a monetary award for their accident-related losses, including economic and non-economic damages.
